Student-Athlete Expectations and Discipline Policy

The Safety Harbor Middle IB World School Athletic Department expects all Seahawk student-athletes to demonstrate excellence in their behavior, both on and off the playing field. As representatives of our school, student-athletes are held to a high standard of conduct.

Expectations for Student-Athletes:
In addition to adhering to the full Pinellas County School Code of Student Conduct, student-athletes are expected to:

• Display pride and commitment when representing Safety Harbor Middle IB World School.
• Serve as positive role models for other students and athletes in academics, language, dress, and behavior.
• Show respect to all those in positions of authority.
• Attend school regularly and be punctual to all classes.
• Attend all scheduled practices and remain for the entirety of each practice.
• Exhibit good sportsmanship in all actions, both on and off the field.
• Use self-discipline, especially in stressful situations.
• Accept decisions made by officials and coaches without question or argument.
• Avoid displays of self-glorification and prioritize the success of the team over individual recognition.

Discipline Policy:
To maintain the high standards expected of student-athletes, any violations of these expectations or any part of the Code of Student Conduct that results in a disciplinary referral may lead to disciplinary actions as follows:

• First Disciplinary Referral:
  The student-athlete will be suspended from a minimum of one team practice and one game or meet. The student-athlete will also be placed on probation and may face dismissal from the team for any further misconduct.
• Second or Subsequent Disciplinary Referrals:
  The student-athlete will be suspended for a minimum of one week of practice and two games or meets per referral. The student-athlete may also be subject to immediate dismissal from the team.

Additional Notes:

• Coaches reserve the right to enforce consequences for any misbehavior by student-athletes, even if not explicitly specified in this policy.
• Final decisions on dismissal from a team rest with the Assistant Principal for Athletics and the Principal. Any decision can be appealed to the Principal.
